A Floating Lighting installation by Phillip K. Smith III
Californian artist and accomplished architect Phillip K. Smith III, have completed a deceiving light installation in the middle of the California High Desert near the small town of Joshua Tree.
Entitled “Lucid Stead”, the piece introduces mirrors, creating an optical illusion of transparency, while at the same time transforming the desert into a material in its own right.
Lit by LED lights at night the windows and doors quietly become solid blocks of colour that create contrasting light and shadows and play with reflected and projected light against the magnificent backdrop of its surrounds.

“Marina Abramovic and Ulay started an intense love story in the 70s, performing art out of the van they lived in. When they felt the relationship had run its course, they decided to walk the Great Wall of China, each from one end, meeting for one last big hug in the middle and never seeing each other again. at her 2010 MoMa retrospective Marina performed ‘The Artist Is Present’ as part of the show, a minute of silence with each stranger who sat in front of her. Ulay arrived without her knowing it and this is what happened.”
